The wide area of Parco Nazionale del Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga includes three regions of the center of Italy: Marche, Lazio and Abruzzo.
The villages of the province of Ascoli belonging to the Park are Arquata del Tronto and Acquasanta Terme located in a fabulous landscape already known at Roman times for their spa waters.
The Park contains many exclusive faunistic and floristic species and the most representative animals of the Appennines such as the wolf, the Abruzzo chamois, the bear, the golden eagle.
Finally, the district of the Monti Gemelli (Twin mountains) with their skiing facilities extending in the part over Colle San Marco (S. Marco Hill) at only 20 kilometres from Ascoli Piceno with the Montagna dei Fiori (Flowers Mountain) (1814 meters) and the Campli mountain extending in Abruzzo are to be mentioned.
